Basker Manta Gummy Decommissioning

Basker Manta Gummy Decommissioning

Benefits
Atteris conducted an engineering review for the decommissioning of the Basker, Manta and Gummy (BMG) fields which included umbilicals, flowlines and subsea infrastructure. The review aided the client in assessing the feasibility, cost and risk associated with various decommissioning options.
Background
The BMG fields located in the Bass Strait, 50km south of the Victorian coast were developed in 2005. In 2010, a decision to decommission the fields was made. The flowline and umbilicals were trenched, and the remaining subsea infrastructure is currently under ‘care and maintenance’ until further decisions are made.
Work Performed by Atteris

Atteris conducted a technical review on the decommissioning options for the BMG fields. The technical considerations covered both recovery and non-recovery scenarios as well as an extended non-production phase. The review concentrated on the risks associated with different decommissioning methods and decommissioning cost estimates. The objective was to aid the Company to assess technical feasibility of the decommissioning options based on current asset conditions.

The review considered the field layout, conditions of subsea structures, water depth, geotechnical and metocean data. It was considered technically feasible to recover the subsea assets and risks such as lifting point integrity, PLEM/UTA suction forces and release of oily water were noted as part of the key items for consideration. Atteris also presented the available subsea intervention tools that could aid the recovery effort

Recommendations for non-recovery and extended non-production phase were provided, as well as decommissioning cost estimates for the recovery option.
