Browse Concept Select – Dynamic Riser Configuration Design

Atteris determined the most suitable riser configurations for the proposed FPSO locations and improved the technical confidence in the conceptual designs by performing dynamic analysis of the riser systems. Atteris also made a number of recommendations for additional analysis in the next phase of work which would further improve technical confidence and refine the system. Woodside developed preliminary cost estimates based on the technical input from Atteris.
Background
The Browse Development is a greenfield development incorporating the Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa offshore gas-condensate fields located in water depths of 400m to 700m. Woodside is currently assessing a Browse to Burrup (B2B) development that exports produced gas via an offshore pipeline to an existing onshore LNG processing facility at the Burrup Peninsula. The B2B Development concept has two permanently turret-moored ship-shaped gas FPSOs located at Calliance / Brecknock and Torosa.
Work Performed by Atteris

Atteris’ dynamic riser team:

  • Developed lazy-wave riser configurations and performed extreme analysis to assess the dynamic response of the system under extreme environmental loading
  • Performed interference analysis to assess the potential for clashing of adjacent risers to define appropriate separation angles between the riser
  • Performed preliminary ancillary equipment design (buoyancy modules, holdback anchors and bend stiffeners)
  • Performed sensitivity analyses to determine the sensitivity of the selected riser configurations towards variations in analysis parameters.
