Flexible Product Suitability Assessment

Flexible Product Suitability Assessment

Benefits
Atteris performed a 3rd party review to investigate the suitability of an EHU and flexible flowline that an Operator (Atteris’ Client) was considering acquiring from another Operator, for a planned subsea tieback well in Australian waters.
Atteris performed a 3rd party review to investigate the suitability of an EHU and flexible flowline that an Operator (Atteris’ Client) was considering acquiring from another Operator, for a planned subsea tieback well in Australian waters. Atteris supported their Client by defining the key governing factors to be considered to assess the suitability of the products for the intended application. The objective was to identify any show stoppers that would rule out the use of one of both lines under conditions different from their design, and provide support for further investigation where required.
Background
Atteris’ Client is planning a subsea tie-back well to their existing subsea development, at a water depth of 380m. For this purpose, the Client has identified the opportunity to acquire an EHU and flexible flowline from another Operator, that were initially designed for a different application, at a shallower water depth. Operating conditions from both field developments need to be compared/assessed to ensure both products can withstand operations for the intended service life of 10 years.
Work Performed by Atteris

Throughout the duration of the project, Atteris’ team of engineers:

  • Supported the Operator in gathering relevant input data.
  • Compiled and reviewed relevant cross section data for the identified products (EHU & Flexible Flowline).
  • Compiled and reviewed relevant design reports and data for the initially intended application.
  • Reviewed and assessed storage condition / history of the EHU and Flexible Flowline.
  • Compiled relevant design data for the new application.
  • Identify key design considerations to assess suitability of the products, including instability.
  • Assessed each layer/component under the new application’s conditions.
  • Confirmed suitability / highlighted areas of uncertainty for the Operator to clarify with the products’ vendors / current owners.
  • Made recommendations for further investigation and testing to be performed to address areas of uncertainty.
  • Provided interface support for the Operator to obtain clarifications and make an educated decision on the purchase of the flexible flowline.
