Atteris provided guidance for the Blackwood River Crossing Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) design. Recommendations were made with regards to:
• HDD entry location
• Further analysis requirement because of high-risk geotechnical conditions
• Stringing area configuration
• Development of pipeline pull-back and HDD procedures
• Monitoring of drilling fluid escape in areas with limited soil cover
• Drilling fluid circulation monitoring (mud returns) at entry and exit points
Background
The Bridgetown Regional Water Supply scheme aimed to connect the Millstream Dam with seven southwest towns in the Shires of Boyup Brook, Bridgetown-Greenbushes and Donnybrook-Balingup. The objective of this scheme was to improve the reliability and quality of water supply to the towns of Balingup, Boyup Brook, Bridgetown, Greenbushes, Hester, Kirup and Mullalyup, involving performing a Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Crossing of the Blackwood River.
