John Brookes Spool Replacement

John Brookes Spool Replacement Analysis

Benefits
Atteris performed installation analysis and seafastening design for a replacement spool at the John Brookes Wellhead Platform. Atteris worked with Sapura under an extremely tight deadline of less than a month, to ensure the spool could be installed quickly and safely with the Sapura Constructor vessel and minimise any further production delays.
Background
The John Brookes Wellhead Platform is located on the Northwest Shelf of Western Australia. The platform is situated 54 km northwest of Varanus Island. An 18-inch wet gas pipeline connects the platform to Varanus Island gas processing plant. The tie-in L-shaped spool at the platform had to be replaced.
Work Performed by Atteris

The spool installation analysis was completed by Atteris, including the following activities:

  • Model development and installation analysis using OrcaFlex, including:
    • Spool lift off deck
    • Lift through the splashzone
    • Set down on seabed considering active heave compensation limits.
  • Spreader bar and spool stress analysis.
  • Seafastening design and deck layouts for transport.
  • Rigging design checks to DNV-ST-N001.
