Benefits
Atteris conducted a comprehensive assessment of the submarine route and two shore crossings for the Maitland to Burrup Corridor Development Plan Project, identifying feasible routes and design methods for the installation of four pipelines and two power cables. By recommending Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) over Open Cut and Cover (OCC) for shore crossings, Atteris minimised environmental impact and reduced the need for extensive surface disruption, potentially lowering construction costs and timelines.
Background
GHD has provided a study to the WA Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (JTSI) and Development WA for the Maitland to Burrup Corridor Development Plan Project. An Infrastructure Corridor was originally identified in 2001 by the Department of Resources Development and was designed to accommodate a range of connecting services between the Maitland Strategic Industrial area (SIA) and the Burrup SIA. There are five services that stakeholders envisage will have a potential need to pass through the Maitland to Burrup corridor in the next 20 years. These are for hydrogen, ammonia, carbon dioxide, water, and electrical power. GHD has provided JTSI recommendations for an entirely onshore infrastructure corridor. However, due to concerns of congestion, JTSI has requested an investigation on an alternative infrastructure corridor route with an offshore section.
