Simpson Pipeline – Decommissioning Stability Study

Simpson Pipeline - Decommissioning Stability Study

Benefits
Atteris demonstrated that most of the components of the pipeline could be uncovered and unbundled ahead of the removal. This allowed the client additional opportunity to develop options for the removal of the pipeline.
Background
Santos owns and operates several facilities in the vicinity of Varanus Island. The Simpson pipeline system suspended production and was mothballed in October 2013. The pipeline system has been flushed and cleaned of hydrocarbons and is currently flooded with treated seawater. To aid the development of the decommissioning methodology Santos requested Atteris to undertake an assessment of the pipeline stability of the Simpson system under various stages of removal.
Work Performed by Atteris

Atteris undertook to evaluate the stability of the Simpson pipeline system, encompassing all its components, under extreme hydrodynamic conditions. The stability assessment was done in accordance with DNV-RP-F109, considering the absolute stability assessment and generalised stability assessment (for sections where absolute stability could not be achieved).
