Atteris performed detailed recovery analyses for the mid water arches and gravity bases on the Tui Decommissioning project for Sapura Energy. This work enabled Sapura to perform the work under the scheduled timeframe and to safely recover the mid water arches in harsh seastates by providing a step-by-step flooding and recovery sequence.
Background
Tui is located 50 km off the Taranaki coastline of the North Island in New Zealand. The flexible risers and umbilical which were previously installed on four Mid Water Arches have been removed. Sapura Energy were contracted by MBIE to remove the remaining four Mid Water Arches, tether system and gravity bases. The Tui field experiences harsh weather with seastates above 2 m significant wave height for approximately 60% of the time.
Work Performed by Atteris

Atteris performed the following activities:

  • Model development and lifting analysis using OrcaFlex to determine the limiting seastates.
  • Sensitivity analysis to optimise flooding of the mid water arch compartments to avoid slack slings and overloading the crane.
  • Defining the mid water arch compartment flooding sequence and recovery procedure.
  • Optimisation of the lift rigging to minimise skew loading.
  • Seafastening and deck layouts for the recovered assets.
  • Estimation of the seabed suction forces for the gravity bases and remaining wellheads.
