16-inch Sales Gas Line Life Extension

16-inch Sales Gas Line Life Extension

Benefits
Atteris’ life extension assessment provided Quadrant Energy with the technical basis to seek a design life extension for its 16-inch offshore and onshore sales gas line (SGL).
Background
Quadrant Energy owns and operates the 16-inch SGL which conducts gas from Varanus Island to the mainland, located in the North West of Western Australia. The pipeline has a 67 km offshore section and a 30 km onshore section. Due to the extended operational phase of the assets an extension to the design life was required.
Work Performed by Atteris

A life extension for the 16-inch SGL was undertaken as per the process outlined in ISO/TS 12747. Assessment of the pipeline current condition, operational history and predicted future operational conditions was undertaken.

This assessment allowed the risks for future operations to be determined and ensure that suitable measures were in place to manage these risks. Activities associated with these measures were identified and utilised as action items to ensure that the integrity of the asset could be confirmed throughout the remainder of its service life. Based on the assessment Atteris determined that the pipeline could be fit for service for the planned extended service life.

Additionally an update of the 16-inch SGL format safety assessment was undertaken in accordance with AS 2885. Threats to the offshore section of the 16-inch SGL were updated in accordance with the threats outlined in DNVGL-RP-F116 (2017).
