Atteris used its subsea expertise to provide design and installation engineering support to PTTEPAA at a key point in the project that enabled PTTEPAA to proceed with confidence on a fast-track procurement and installation scope of work for a replacement umbilical. This resulted in significant risk reduction to the Montara Development operations.

Background

The Montara Development is located approximately 690 km west of Darwin in the Timor Sea and produces crude oil from the Skua, Swift and Swallow fields. New dynamic and static electrical umbilicals are required to provide electrical functionality to the fields.

Work Performed by Atteris

Atteris provided timely engineering support to PTTEPAA to allow it to proceed with project planning and implementation, including the following activities:

Route selection for the new dynamic and static umbilicals and associated equipment such as EFLs, identifying any additional survey requirements and allowing confirmation of required umbilical and EFL lengths;
Design review of the umbilical package to confirm suitability for loadout, transportation and installation;
Quasi-static in-place analysis of the proposed dynamic umbilical configuration, to assess the feasibility of the proposed configuration with respect to the built-in angle of the existing FPSO turret and to provide recommendations on any modification works required;
Preliminary foundation designs for the static UTAs, SDUs riser bases;
Preliminary installation analysis, to confirm installation feasibility of the static umbilicals and associated equipment (UTAs and SDUs);
Installation analysis and methodology for the dynamic umbilical and associated equipment (bend stiffener, BSC and riser base);
Constructability Review of the main installation activities to identify issues.
